Programs and Education

Cultural Kitchen
An after-school program using cooking to foster intercultural awareness and exchange amongst youth, Cultural Kitchen serves students from Boston-area middle and high schools.

YOUTH Program
YOUTH provides opportunities for inner -city youth in the Boston area to learn, travel and grow, through travel scholarships, group packages and educational partnerships.

YOUTH Travel Scholarships
Scholarships sponsor summer travel for Boston-area youth ages 10-18 to HI-ENEC hostels in Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket and Midcape. Groups take advantage of the rich history, environment and cultural activities and, by staying at the hostel, have the opportunity to meet other travelers from around the world.

Girl Scout Programs
Since the 1930s, HI-USA has provided Girl Scouts with opportunities for travel through educational, cultural and recreational programs that build life skills and promote global understanding. HI-ENEC continues this strong tradition through specialized programs and activities at the Boston, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket hostels.

Alternative Spring Break
Teams of college students from around the world come to Boston to perform community service during their Spring Break vacations. Students work with organizations including the AIDS Action Committee, Rosie's Place and Project Bread.

Sally Whitcher Travel Award
Every semester, HI-ENEC awards two $500 travel grants to support an area college student's study abroad through hostelling. Award recipients demonstrate a commitment to educational and intercultural experiences.

College Campus Outreach
WORLD TRAVEL 101 education seminars students prepare college students for domestic and/or international travel, and focus on what it means to "journey with an open mind and gentle heart." HI-ENEC works with college campuses to tailor educational, travel, and cultural exchange resources and programs to the unique needs of each school.

Expand Your World
The cultural series is not a window but a door to the world-inviting audiences to personally experience the diversity of countries around the globe and explore its peoples, cultures, and lands in depth. Expand Your World programs include the International Women's Day Film Festival, the ITVS Film Series and the Writers and Readings Series.

Resource Library
A valuable resource for novice and veteran travelers, individuals, groups and families alike, HI-ENEC's Resource Library offers workshops - from Travel Abroad 101 to Responsible Tourism - where travelers can learn the ins-and-outs and current trends of travel.
