2008 YOUTH Travel Scholarship Recipients
Twenty-five youth and staff from Bikes Not Bombs will
bike to our hostel on Martha's Vineyard (with a little help from
the ferry for the water crossing) for an environmentally friendly
adventure this summer. Through bike trips to the beach, stargazing,
and enrichment activities, this trip will broaden friendships
and mentorship relationships, enhance global awareness, and promote
sustainable relationships with the natural world.
Ten youth and two staff leaders from the Blue Hill Boys and
Girls Club's Keystone Club will venture out to Martha's Vineyard
this summer with our Biking Treasure Trek package. Youth will
have the opportunity to focus on team building as well as some
of the key areas of their leadership club through this journey:
social recreation, free enterprise, unity, and character building.
Castle Square Tenants Organization (CSTO) is an advocacy
and support group providing programs to support low income youth
and their families in Castle Square and the surrounding community.
Ten Youth Council peer leaders and three staff members will travel
to our hostel on Nantucket this summer for a two-night leadership
development retreat. At the end of the retreat, peer leaders will
produce a public service announcement to share their experience
with the larger community.
Graduating 8th and 12th graders from the UMASS Boston Urban
Scholars Program will spend two nights at our Mid-Cape hostel
in Eastham as they reflect on the process of moving forward to
the next stage of their lives. Through our Biking Treasure Trek
package, the Urban Scholars will explore the area and go on a
GPS scavenger hunt. Congratulations graduates!

A
total of 29 people, four chaperones and 25 youth will be traveling
to Martha's Vineyard with MYTOWN Inc this summer. This
unique organization trains youth from diverse Boston neighborhoods
to develop and lead walking tours of Boston. Group research projects
and presentations around the history of Native tribes and early
settlers of the Vineyard are a key part of the Youth Guides' training
and help guides understand the history of Massachusetts with a
focus on the Native American culture tied to the area. This trip
to the Vineyard is an exciting experiential education and teambuilding
opportunity for Youth Guides as they embark upon their explorations
with MYTOWN.
We are thrilled to support these five groups this summer as they
travel to our hostels on the Cape and Islands. Safe journeys!
