Car-less Itineraries
Boston - Martha's Vineyard - Boston

Flying in to Boston?
Start your trip with a stay at Hostelling International - Boston.
Visit the city and check out some of the sites.
When you've had your fill of Boston, catch the Bonanza Bus from South Station to Wood's Hole.
From there, take a ferry to Martha's Vineyard and head over to the Martha's Vineyard Hostel for a great place to stay.
Getting around the island is easy, with buses and taxis to whisk you about, and bicycles for rent.
When the time comes for you to end your sojourn on Martha's Vineyard, head back to the ferry and catch the bus back to Boston.
We'll save you a bed for your next visit. You'll want to come back soon!

Boston - Nantucket - Boston

From Boston, catch the bus to Hyannis. Get off at the Hyannis Terminal and catch the ferry shuttle from the Mary Dunn Rd/Brooks Rd parking lot to the ferry dock.
Catch the ferry to Nantucket. The Nantucket hostel is located 3 1/2 miles from Nantucket ferry wharf. Go up Main St., take left on Orange St. and then a right on E. York St. (at Bake Shop!). Bear left onto Atlantic Ave., which becomes Surfside Rd. Stay on Surfside Rd. for 2 miles. At the beach go right, onto Western Ave. Take the Surfside Shuttle Bus, rent a bike(tell 'em you're a hosteller and get a discount!) take a taxi or walk! Drop your stuff at the hostel and head straight to the beach. You can't miss it, it'll be right in front of you!

Boston - Mid Cape - Truro - Boston

Flying in to Boston?
Start your trip with a stay at Hostelling International - Boston.
Visit the city and check out some of the sites.
When you've had your fill of Boston, catch the Plymouth & Brockton bus to ORLEANS (not Eastham).
See if the driver will drop you at the rotary. Some will, some won't. Click the map link to see directions from the bus stop. On the map, the bus stop is the green marker, the hostel is the red one. It's about a 2 mile walk.
When you're ready to move on, head back to the bus stop and catch the bus to Truro. Get off at the Post Office. Again, you'll have to use your gams for the last leg (get it!) of the journey. Click the map to see the route from the bus stop to the hostel. This walk is a little less than 2 miles. Plus there's a really nice beach at the end.
When the sad day arrives that you must head back to Boston, stroll back up North Pamet Road and catch the trusty bus back to Boston.

Cape Cod National Seashore by Bike (this trip is recommended for cyclists who are familiar and comfortable with street travel, portions of the trip are on well-traveled roads.)

Day one, from Boston, grab your bike and catch the ferry to Provicetown.
Hop on your wheels, take a right onto Bradford Street, continue on Commercial Steet and then follow signs for route 6A. 6A will merge with Rt 6. Continue on 6, then take a left onto South Pamet Road (a little over 9 miles from the ferry), then a quick left onto North Pamet Road. Follow North Pamet until you almost hit the beach. The Truro Hostel is on the right. Now hit the beach, you've earned a swim!
(about 11 miles from the ferry)

Here's a handy route map for reference.

On day two, hit the road again. Follow North Pamet Rd. back to South Pamet Rd. Cross Rt 6 and take a left onto 6A and a quick right onto Depot Rd. Depot Rd. turns into Old Country Rd. At the end of Old Country Rd., take a left onto Bound Brook Island Rd. Take a right onto Pole Dike Rd. Take a left onto West Main St. Continue on Main St. Take a left onto Long Pond Rd, follow to end. Take a right onto Ocean View Dr follow to end. Take right onto Lawrence Rd. Continue on Lecounts Hollow Rd. The bike trail begins on the right.

Here's a route map to the beginning of the bike trail.

Follow the Cape Cod Rail Trail south through Eastham. The rail trail crosses Samoset Road, then Bridge Road, then Governor Prence Road. Approximately a mile after the path crosses Governor Prence Road, there is an informational bulletin board and a paved path on the right side of the bike trail. Turn right onto the path, following it downhill to Rock Harbor Road. Turn right on Rock Harbor Road. Turn right on Bridge Road. Turn right on Goody Hallet Drive. The Mid Cape Hostel is 75 Goody Hallet Drive.
(about 25 miles from Truro)

Day three, if you're still going strong, check out the rest of the Cape Cod Rail Trail. Get back on the trail and keep going for as long as your heart and your legs desire. The trail is about 12 miles to its endpoint in Dennis.
