Hello,
School's out, colleges are on break, and shorts and flip flops
have been retrieved from the closet. It is officially summer
with the 4th of July already just around the corner! That means
it is a great time to come and visit Boston the Cape and the
Islands. Whether you are coming to Boston to see a bit of revolutionary
history or heading out to the Cape and the Islands for bike
rides, kayaking, or a dip in the water by beautiful beaches,
it is a great time to be here! Hope to see you out and about
in New England.
Happy travels!

HI-ENEC Seasonal
Hostels are now all open and looking great! We
have hostels mid-cape in Eastham, in Truro near Provincetown,
on Nantucket, and Martha's Vineyard. Boston's Fenway Summer
Hostel is also open for the season to accommodate more guests
during Boston's busy season.
Be sure to come see all of the work we've done on our Nantucket
hostel, Nantucket's first life saving station built in 1874.
The back barn is now handicap accessible with boardwalks all
in place and it looks great. Also, thanks to the Nantucket
Lifesaving Museum, there will be a new display going up in
the common area to commemorate the rich history of the United
States Lifesaving Service.
Martha's Vineyard is also ready for the summer. Located
between Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven you are free to explore
the island or play a game on our beach volleyball court. Take
a look at pictures
of the hostel and the vineyard here and when you
come make sure to take advantage of the pancake breakfast!

ENEC just finished the first year of it's
signature Cultural Kitchen
program headed up by Promise Fellow, Anna Marks. The program,
which used cooking and cuisine as a vehicle to build cultural
competency in local students, was met with a great amount
of enthusiasm and was an all around success. Students not
only enjoyed learning about the cuisine of different cultures
but they showed marked increase in cultural awareness and
understanding. They left the program with a greater appreciation
for the rich culture of their communities as well as a the
global community.
When surveyed participants were quoted as saying that one
of the most important things they learned in the program was,
"to be friends and respect other cultures." Students were
awarded certificates and cookbooks for completing the Cultural
Kitchen program.
This program will start it's second year next September
at several of the participating schools from this past year
as well as several new schools.
In celebration of the completed renovations,
our Nantucket Hostel will be hosting a reception and open house
at the end of August. Come by the hostel and see all of the
work that's been done and keep an eye out for this event!
